Chronic Tacos – Fresno, CA

It’s always fun working with lasers, something that more people are asking for as people get proficient with the tech. This project was done in collaboration with the laser expert at Ironwood Outfit. Designing for 3D packaging presents really fun possibilities and new challenges to explore… and it just looks awesome to create something functional that gets used in 3D space like this.

The video is me drawing one of the faces of the lid box, before drawing the filigree. The laser operates with a  tolerance of .02 inches. So there was a lot of trial and error every time we changed materials because it cut this material slightly differently than that one. Once we dialed it in, the finger joinery slid perfectly and snug.

These were used in Chronic Tacos for years until they went out of business, I think, during the pandemic.
